Reaction To Qur’an Burning Should Tell Us Much
The reaction to the burning of the Qur’an by Rev. Terry Jones of Dove Outreach Center in Gainesville, Florida should be very revealing to those apologists who constantly try to deny that there is a radical element in the muslim world that is a “problem”. And that radical element is not small enough to poo-poo or shrug your shoulders about.
Firstly though, one has to wonder what the hell Mr. Jones was thinking when he undertook this action. Apparently, he and his cohorts put the Qur’an on “trial”, holding an “International Judge the Koran Day”. (Their spelling, not mine.) The indictment? That the Qur’an incites muslims to violence. Not all muslims, but obviously enough for him to be upset enough to stage this mock trial and send his message. Six months ago, Jones threatened to burn a Qur’an on what he proposed as “International Burn a Koran Day” (again, their spelling not mine), but backed down apparently due to the backlash which foreshadowed his event.
This pastor appears to be a minor league qu’ack, and while many of us might agree in general terms with his sentiment, if his approach is going to be purposefully not helpful, I wish he would be qu’iet.
To date approximately 11 people have been killed in riots across the region, mostly in Afghanistan. Seven of the people were UN workers.
Should we blame the deaths on Jones? No. But we have to acknowledge that this smalltime whack job is really just firing for effect, not understanding that the consequences of his actions really does absolutely nothing positive for our situation as a society, nation, or world. I would liken it to kicking a hornets nest at a summer camp just to prove that bees can be really mean and crazy when you piss them off. Nice job, dumb-ass.
What this does illustrate, however, is the huge delta between how Christians see, and react to things such as this, and how radical muslims (not all muslims) react.
For the burning of a book, which may be (obviously is) an offense to them, rising to the level or riots which kill, or dressing up as women and detonating your suicide bomb-laden body (which occurred near a NATO base) is really a stretch for my mind to grasp. Someone burned the book that represents your religion, because they (the burner, Jones) believe that you are incited by the book to be a violent cancer on society— and your response is to go out and be a violent cancer on society? I don’t KNOW a Christian that would kill because someone burned a Bible. I think 99.99% of Christians would shrug in sorrow and look at the “burner” with pity and distaste, not go out in the streets and riot.
Looking at this group’s reaction to Jones’ action should reveal a lot about crazies on both sides. A stupid little man who wants to make big waves but can’t clearly see that their is no real payoff for his actions that moves anyone “ahead”, reacted to by angry mobs made up of more stupid men who have been unfortunately indoctrinated in large part by the teachings in their mosques to hate… well- that IS an ironic mix of individuals, isn’t it?
Largely missed in the story, to this point anyway, is that Afghan President Hamid Karzai said that the US and UN should “bring to justice” this man, Jones, who burned the Qur’an.
“Bring to justice”… for burning a book.
Wow. This from the President of Afghanistan, a man we helped “create”, to some extent, and will likely be leaving behind. I am sure he will usher in a new era of tolerance and understanding. I am quite confident now that when we leave, these people will just all calm down and be peace loving friends of the US and the world.
And remember… they are trying to bring Sharia law to this country and force it into our courts…
Maybe this illustrates that the delta between what is right and wrong, just and unjust, is just too big for the west and the mideast to span.
CURSES ARE FUN
It seems that nasty and sinister curses are part of the Arab culture and are scribbled all over Egypt and in the tombs of the pharaohs. Why should al-Qaeda have all the fun? Here’s mine:
May the fishes of the sea feast on the decaying body of your unholy man and bring sickness to the table of every al-Qaeda member who takes up the sword.
REGARDING THE BIN LADEN PHOTOS
The President has made the right decision for now and will not release the photos of Bin Laden in death. The American public, indeed the world has been given enough circumstantial evidence to believe Bin Laden is dead. The cumulative and circumstantial evidence proves the point.
Releasing the photos could (1) cause further violence or (2) be used as propaganda by our enemies.
Enough said. Media, please get off this subject.
KICK THE BARBARIANS OFF THE PLANET
I’m listening to all the reactions from people around the world on the death of Osama bin Laden. Pakistan, to my new-found knowledge, turns out to be a back-stabbing devil of a country and I hope they get what they deserve.
RESIGNED AGAIN?
What I don’t hear are any new ideas. Here we are in the 21st century, stuck on a little blue planet with a bunch of terrorists, some who can barely read and write, AND WE’RE WAITING TO BE ATTACKED AGAIN. Vengeance, anger, stupidity are theirs and we say attacks are coming.
The world should not be the killing playground of one religion with pockets of nut cases born and bred behind the robes of Islam. The world can no longer tolerate their hate and their killing in the name of religion. Most religions stopped killing for their god centuries ago but not Islam. Islam is stuck in a time warp and the world needs to make the kings, dictators and leaders of the middle east stand up and be responsible.
The middle east should never build nuclear weapons but should spend their oil dollars on building a spaceship to shuttle their killing, uncivilized masses to another planet.
I’m sick of the insanity. Someone needs to get to the root of the problem. How can middle eastern leaders even show their faces at NATO when their citizens are acting like psychotic, delusional killers?
INTERESTING!

Growing up and entering the civilized world is hard to do for Muslims, the mideast and Arabs in general. It’s time someone said it to them straight.
Grow up Arab Muslims and get over yourselves. Islam is not the only religion in the world, nor can it be called the best, and many see you in the mideast as infantile, primitive and brainwashed by dogma and practice.
Overall you contribute little to the world and at the same time excel in killing each other, destruction, and hating people who achieve what you’ve been unable to do: come together and act like adults.
No one holds you back but yourselves and customs that relegate half your population, women, to chattel status. If you want to be angry and hate someone, look in the mirror because that’s where you’ll see your worst enemy.
