The Sleigh is in Front of the Reindeer
For some time now, I have toyed with an idea. I have come to the conclusion I should publish it. I will likely re-publish it EVERY YEAR from now on…
What is it?
Well, shopping instructions. Kind of…
It has become very apparent that there will be a “war” fought between secular’s, and those who are more “religious” when it comes to many social issues in our society. Among those is, of course, Christmas.
Of course, we celebrate Christmas every year (or try to) and a very large part of that tradition is the giving of gifts. We buy these gifts at stores, most of the time. However, the stores are trying way too hard to accommodate the hyper sensitivities of our secular “friends”.
Now, for the sake of argument, let’s just accept the facts that seculars make up less than about 30% of society (I am being “kind” in my generalization- their numbers are far less than that) and that Christians represent a majority of the rest of that pie, to the tune of about 225 million folks.
It turns out, year after year, that “we” who believe in either the religion or tradition of Christmas have to fight to make sure stores recognize, appropriately, that a very vast majority of Americans are celebrating Christmas when they are visiting the stores, and buying their “wares”.
These stores have their priorities all backwards. The Sleigh is in front of the Reindeer.
In some cases, we have to fight them left and right, tooth and nail, to get things like “Holiday Tree” and other watered down symbols and terms removed, and to have the more traditional observation be represented, either in WORD (”Christmas”) or in spirit (images).
Now, apparently some of these stores are getting the message, but others are not. What message? “WE are fed UP!!!”
The good news is, we are making some progress in this area; the ACLU is winning and challenging less, and across the Nation, it does appear that perhaps the pendulum has started to swing back the other way.
The bad news is, the battle is not over, not by a long shot. .
You can find lists here and there of stores who make mistakes with their advertising- I will not print a list in this article, as the ‘list’ does change over time.
Some stores will bend to the pressure, others obstinately feel they have some kind of stand to make. As examples, Target, Wal Mart, Sears, Macy’s and others hit the list from time to time. One really has to do a little research to know for sure what is going on, when.
So, here is what I would urge you to do when you find a bah-humbug secular stance at any major store near you: SHOP there.
Correct. Go in, fill up a cart, from all over the store. Hit automotive, garden, home, kitchen, clothing (his hers and juniors!) Get one of everything you want, and maybe a few things you would not want. Small items, big items, perishable items, heavy items, and things from high on shelves. Shop shop shop ’til you drop…
When your cart is overflowing with Christmas cheer, and perhaps would not hold one more item, you still have one more to add.
Go find a nice wreath or banner or door sign that prominently says “Happy Holidays!!!” on it, and place it on the top of the cart… and leave the store.
I said ’shop’, not ‘buy’.
Imagine the point made by thousands if not millions of carts full of “Holiday” goods that have to be restocked, at the stores expense. Nothing illegal here… nothing terribly ugly here. You simply changed your mind when you saw that all they had was “Happy Holidays” on the decorations.
Now, I am off to Target, to grab a few carts.
Merry Christmas!!!
