The Audacity of Mr. Hope
Panic: No Way to Govern…
Folks, I don’t want to sound alarmist, mostly because it is how Obama is sounding right now, but we need to get on top of this one.
This President is on the precipice of what will likely turn out to be a major mistake. Before I offer my thoughts on that, please consider the first two weeks and how they have gone so far, for Mr. Inexperience.
- He has talked down the economy, stated that it will get worse before it gets better, and now has stooped to the stupidity of claiming this will be a “catastrophe” if the stimulus does not pass, now. This is alarmist, and honestly shows the man does not understand the leverage of his office on tipping point issues. Or, he DOES understand it, and he is acting like a child.
- He has nominated 3-4 people who should not even be serving in public office, due to the positions sought being in conflict with either their lobbyist background, OR their inability to follow the law and pay taxes properly.
- Subsequently, concerning Tom Daschle’s withdrawal, the President tried to appear “concerned and wise” when he emitted the following logic concerning the matter:
“Ultimately it’s important for this administration to send a message that there aren’t two sets of rules. You know, one for prominent people and one for ordinary folks who have to pay their taxes.”
This was accompanied by:
“I’m here on television saying I screwed up and that’s part of the era of responsibility.”
Translation? “Yup- the people on the right were correct. I have no experience and these kinds of gaffes- well, expect more of them.”
What is AMAZINGLY rich about this is, as he states, their should not be the perception there are two sets of rules for people, he conveniently ignores Timothy Geithner, who’s only difference from Daschle is he cheated for a lower amount. So, actually, he’s right. We don’t have two sets of rules, we have three. You and me who would be grilled, Daschle, who doesn’t get a job, and apparently Geithner, who will.
Couple this with the most recent statement about limiting CEO salaries to $500k if they take the bailout money. Not only is this a sophomoric idea, it also wreaks of over-reaching governmental control, and quite frankly, I don’t think he or the Government has the right to do so. This will likely either be met with lawsuits, which I think they (companies) will win; OR, it will have the effect of – are you ready for this- making SOME companies back away from the bailout.
Brilliant. We needed the bank bailout so bad we had to push it through, but, what’s that you say? Now, it’s ok if some of them don’t take it and either fail, or, even worse, prove they didn’t NEED it in the first place?
Couple that with the news that broke today that billions have been wasted in the bank bailout. How many billions? According to Congressional Oversight Chairman Elizabeth Warren, $78 BILLION was wasted by overpaying the debt of many institutions.
$78 BILLION. That is nine BILLION shy of the $87 BILLION that John Kerry voted for, then against, in the 2004 election cycle. The reason I bring that up is, just to give you an idea of what kind of dollars we are talking about. We are talking about the kind of money that you can run a war with, thousands of miles away, in two countries- for MONTHS. Wasted. Down the accounting black hole.
This all frames the argument for putting the brakes on this runaway panic freak (Obama) before he does REAL damage to our country’s economy. Right now he is in rush rush mode, and I think I know partly why.
- In the first one hundred days, he has to somehow appear to take control (Congressionally). If this current stimulus fails, especially with the power the Democrats wield in congress, he will appear to be wounded immensely.
- He desperately needs something he can take to the people, to make them forget his blunders thus far, and to show he can indeed at least affect some kind of change, since he promised some.
- It’s a win win for the Dems. If the stimulus fails to pass, they can blame the republicans. If the stimulus passes, they can take credit for it.
- If the stimulus then FAILS and our economy still falters, they have Bush to blame, as they will state that they inherited this problem from him. If the stimulus succeeds, of course, they will claim that they were successful, and in fact, Bush will not even come up at that point, except to state how bad off we were before the savior came along.
The point here is, we have an overzealous, overachieving, under-experienced man who promised great things, who so far has done little but make mistakes, trying to manage a problem- and that is now scaring me. It should be terrifying you.
While he is trying to manage this problem, he is hindered by panic, and a desire to achieve something, anything, to give to the people who voted for him. He is hindered by politicians on his side trying to pork up the bill with pet projects. This is not leadership.
He is hindered, also, by the GOP, and now he needs to be hindered by us… you… me…
Harry Reid is promising to “push this through”. It is rumored that they are bragging that they think they have the votes to get it through, even if most Republicans want to hinder or thwart their efforts.
Like the amnesty bill, we might need to act, and act quickly, to show our discontent with this stimulus proposal. Please try to take the time to contact your representatives, and tell them you want this stimulus to either SLOW down, or fail.

Obama is not wrong in admitting his errors (or folly). Perhaps he should be penalising only those self-serving CEOs.
The way I see it, if Obama imposes 1% extra tax on import of luxury goods a lot of money can be temporarily raised for the poor, and to help ppl keep their homes longer.
There are other things Obama has failed to look into, despite my attempts to contact him on Twitter.com lol
But as you know, majority of the USA did not vote Dr. Ron Paul. People have to bear some responsibility for their choices!
Obamessiah will make all things new. We mustn’t think He has failed or He is inexperienced. We must remember He can change His mind as His will requires to fulfill His plans.
Praise Obama!
That’s what happen when the people voted for an “American Idol” star. He’s made by the media, he’ll live on the media, and soon, he’ll succumb to the media.
Rudy – I am with you. Some say he’s paid by Wall Street! how true is this – we will have to see!
Hopped over here from Twitter…I didn’t vote for Obama, but was HOPEful anyway, and am nervous now myself. Did you see the talk he when with his Democratic cronies tonight? They aired it on FOX and he simply didn’t sound Presidential, emphasizing how he was handed this mess with a red ribbon around it…even if true, it’s just not the way a mature President should talk…he didn’t have to take on the Presidency, to late to whine now…oh, click my name and stop by and view my “apologies” post, have all 5 so far in one post. And to think it’s only been 2 weeks. HOPEing for better days ahead…all for leaving the current economic situation alone and letting it right itself, even if the process is painful. We should bear the consequences of our own decisions, not our children.
nice article, but those CEO’s should be ashamed. if they run a company that’s in the red, then II’m going to sue them for my money back that they stole. There has to be some regulation on them for accepting the money. They cannot have lavish parties in Vegas, give themselves bonuses when their company’s suck, and not be accountable for OUR money.
I wonder if I will get PR for suing some of them. It’s still my money at the end of the day. I worked for it; I earned it. They drove their companies into the ground. Why should they get one penny of my money? I think if they have a failure year they should be $0 salary and $0 bonuses. Everyone always whines “oh but we have to pay them b/c other CEO’s get that and if we don’t pay we won’t get a good CEO” – is that a GOOD CEO who runs your company into the red? Aren’t they ashamed? There has to be a special circle in hell for them.
