State Controlled Media Is Good
Comrade! Welcome to the Soviet Union!
Nearly everything I have warned you about in this blog that the Democrats would threaten and run asunder is either happening, or being talked about aggressively by the children on the left. Of the power grabs and double talk, promise breaking that has happened already, this one might rank right up their with something Castro would attempt.
The rhetoric is climbing surrounding the topic of the “Fairness Doctrine”, otherwise known as the “We Can’t Compete On An Even Field Of Ideas and Logic, Without Government Propping Us Up Doctrine.” Think NPR.
Fittingly, Friday the 13th had a black cat, as advertised. On Michael Savage’s radio show, the fairness doctrine was raised, and former Gov. Jerry Brown was speaking as though he supported it. Savage noted that it sounded as though Brown wanted state control over media, specifically talk radio. Brown replied “Well, a little state control wouldn’t hurt anyone.”
The fairness doctrine did not require that stations give equal time, but the FCC asserted that stations had the right to insure that differing views be allowed. The Supreme Court ruled that the FCC had the right to enforce the doctrine, in limited media markets, but they did not rule that the FCC was obligated to do so.
Clearly, since 1987, when the FCC rescinded the doctrine, we had a very different media “market”. Today, in a broad sense, the media market is not just radios and television broadcasts, but also the internet, cell phones, podcasts, satellite television and radio, cable. Yes, we had the internet and cable at the time, as well as limited satellite. But the explosion and expansion of the technology and usage of those media mediums now makes it much more difficult for the case to be made today that “other views” are not afforded “equal time”, especially with the left’s current dominance on the net and cell phones/podcasts.
Those who have spoken in the not so distant past in favor of the fairness doctrine?
- Sen. Dick Durbin
- Sen. Debbie Stabenow
- Bill Clinton
- Sen. Jeff Bingham
- Sen. Tom Harkin
- Rep. Nancy Pelosi
- Sen. John Kerry
In “Talkers Magazine” “2008 Heavy Hundred”, eight of the top ten talk radio hosts are conservative.
- Rush Limbaugh
- Sean Hannity
- Michael Savage
- Dr. Laura Schlessinger
- Glen Beck
- Laura Ingraham
- Mike Gallagher
- Neal Boortz
Get your guns, folks… before they take them. Oh- and load them.
You’ll find the statement at 5:40, but the whole thing is worth a listen, for sure.

what a great place…
Personally I can’t wait for the unrest to begin…… I am ever at the ready.
The fairness doctrine promises to be the largest abuse to the First Amendment in the history of the country. The very idea that the state should control opinion flies in the face of the founding principles of this country and violates the oath that legislators have taken to uphold and protect the Constitution.
Thank you for bringing this conversation to light.
Best,
Rich
