Conservative Blog Political Potpourri for February 13, 2008
Ann Coulter seems to be changing her tune. On Cavuto today she backtracked from her “campaign for Hillary” statement. But the real story, I think, is why this uproar happened in the first place.
Of course, McCain is too moderate for many hard line conservatives. He is even too moderate for me on several key issues, but I can still stomach to vote for him- barely. But what is really happening here is this: The far right is fearful as hell that a Republican could win the White House without their “expressed” support.
Does this really mean anything? Well, to me it doesn’t, but if you are the far right, of course, it does. It is a matter of perception more than anything else, I fear. What happened when McCain became the presumptive nominee is the far right immediately had a knee jerk reaction to his policies. I can’t say my knees didn’t do a lot of twitching either. Then the screaming began immediately, amplified by the usual suspects from talk radio, etc… What happened NEXT is what really made the difference, though…
…nobody really cared. McCain has likely enough support from the moderate Democrats- perhaps more than he needs to make up for the loss of the far right. That is not to say that I think every far right-er will not vote for McCain, but for those that either will sit home, or vote for an Indy, there are plenty of folks from middle to make up for it. McCain knows this, and this is why he is not running willy nilly to the right to appease the screams for him to “adjust” his stance on nearly everything in order to “earn” their votes, as they put it.
As an example, one poll has 18% of McCain support coming from the Democrat party- no doubt Roosevelt types as opposed to Soros/Code Pinkers. But Obama garners only 10% of moderate GOP’ers.
The real issue for the far right is not that they would have a moderate (or liberal, in their eyes) GOP President, but rather that he got there without needing to walk lockstep with them to the Whitehouse. Yes, his stance on issues matters, and maddens them (or causes them fear, perhaps rightfully so), but what this really is about is “importance” and “power”, and the expression of same.
To address their real concern, that McCain is a danger to this Nation- I would prefer to take a wait and see attititude, and when he gets out of line, whip him like we did last summer on the amnesty crap he supported.
And should McCain make any overtures to pacify the far right prior to getting elected? Well, even if his pandering does not gain him a single vote (one would never be able to tell if it helped or not) at least the far righters have set themselves up to at least think they had something to do with him winning, while at the same time having the ability to cry out, if he loses, that he lost because of them.
They are covering their butts both ways.
On another front- here is an amazing statistic. Or, maybe not so amazing. It is amazing to us conservatives.
Of those Democrats who feel experience is the #1 factor when looking for a nominee, 94% of them support Hillary.
Wow.
What does this mean?
Well, you can slice it and dice it a million ways, but one thing you always come back to is this: experience must not matter much to their party, period, because Obama is on his way to a win.
What kind of a world would you have to live in to think for a second that experience, right now, for this country, is not one of the most important attributes one can have while running for President? Under the current circumstances, one would think that experience alone would be enough to undermine Obama to the extent he would not be viable. But, we are dealing with creaturs of emotion when it comes to the far left, and they would rather see “change” and “hope” even though the change means wearing burqas and the “hope” means “I hope our Islamic conquerors are not too mean to us!!!”
It all starts with electing a Hussein… Barack Hussein Obama.

McCain has done many things that I don’t agree with and a few I do agree with. Now for Senators Clinton and Obama: They have done many things that I don’t agree with and none that I do agree with! So what is my choice? I will bite my tongue and swallow my pride and do what must be done, I will vote for McCain.
Left or Right? Liberal or Conservative? Up or Down? Who cares? None of these candidates represent me.
What Ann Coulter did was tilt the perspective and make us look harder and closer. Good for her! The Republican Party police aren’t at my door yet and I get to turn this over and over before I decide. The call to unite be damned!
If you have no choice as with Clinton, Obama and McCain all being for open borders leading to a possible North American Union, and you see amnesty for 20-30 million illegal aliens as the final foothold needed to forever integrate the U.S. with people who place their nations of origin above the nation they are invited to swallow, then you begin to look for angles and possibilities.
You begin to do some calculating and ask yourself what does four (4) years of Clinton, Obama or McCain mean to me? How will each of them fare in inplementing their promises? How much damage will each do? Will this particular person’s perceived failures do our country some good in 2012? Will the animosity they create doom them for a second term?
McCain should definitely be making overtures to pacify me — waiting will only make me less responsive if and when he does, but I’m not fooling myself.
McCain has stated his objectives. He hired Juan Hernandez, Mr. Mexico First to be his Hispanic Outreach Director, and we have his past actions and votes to mull over.
McCain will not change. I’ll address Clinton and Obama later.
As an example, one poll has 18% of McCain support coming from the Democrat party- no doubt Roosevelt types as opposed to Soros/Code Pinkers. But Obama garners only 10% of moderate GOP’ers.
……………………………………….
10% of moderate GOP’ers – where did this come from? How is this arrived at? for Obama? I’m really missing something here.
The far right is fearful as hell that a Republican could win the White House without their “expressed” support.

We just put up a 10 million dollar addition to our church and we are running out of room. It is as conservative as you can get.
Is this “far right” group the only one of its kind?
I’ve been here 12 years and see none of the fear described.
What we do see is the erosion of values in our society. We are concerned the destuction of our nation is occurring from within.
This is a two party system and you pick the one that is closest to your values. Then you work to have the party support those values. Otherwise, where does a party get its values from?
