New York Times Painting Itself Into a Corner

The most recent overture from the Gray Lady is unfortunately another example of her showing her true colors… at least the true colors of today. In days of yore, this rag meant something to the world. While the internet and 24 hour cable news stations are doing a lot to kill major newspapers, they (old media) are also committing their own form of suicide by stupidity by printing/broadcasting “all the news that’s fit to serve a political purpose”.

This latest attack on McCain is contrived by the minds of those in the left leaning Times, I believe, to feed a calculated conclusion they came to in error. What is that conclusion? That you can destroy a conservative candidate by attacking him for sexual wanderlust. They still don’t get it, and never will… it wasn’t what Clinton DID, it was what he put the Country through to save his butt- oh— and the bald face lying.

Nothing the NYT has reported is “news”, simply because the best they can do with it at this time is “allege”. What would be news is if McCain lies about it.

I don’t think he is lying, but I am sure the NYT hopes he is, as they are quickly realizing they don’t have a story, and that what they did report is backfiring.

What “news” organizations like the NYT and 60 Minutes need to remember is that they have an ethical responsibility. And, they should well remember that if you cannot prove a story, you really ought to just shut your mouth about it.

Reporting allegations is a long way from ethical news journalism, and with new media stealing their influence and viewership/readership, old media is trying to do two things:

  1. Remain relevant
  2. Influence the outcome of todays politics

The amazing thing is, the more they try to influence the outcome of our politics, the less relevant they become. I can illustrate this quickly.

If you turn off some viewers or readers by blatantly appearing biased or baring your agendas, then eventualy you are preaching to the choir. Once you are preaching to the choir, you are beholden TO the choir, beholden to keeping them happy and fed with what they want to hear.

If the NYT and CBS and NBC continue on their current paths, the only audience they will have will be the left, and they will then have to cater to that audience, making them irrelevant as true news agencies, arbiters of unbiased “truth” in journalism.

Obama Puts Boot in Mouth

Hussein Obama said recently that he had talked with a Captain in the Army stationed in Afghanistan who claimed that he had 15 fewer troops than he was “supposed” to have, and that it was “easier to get Taliban weapons” than to keep themselves armed properly with Army issue weapons and ammo.

Without going into great detailed analysis of this story, let me just tell you one thing. In a Presidential election, where you have been known to be against the war, it is ALWAYS a loser to attack the military, especially WITH military personnel anecdotes.

Why? Let’s just say that while history has not provided many examples of such stories being true in the first place, the reality is that politically this is kind of like Rosie O’Donnel suing Hostess.

Which brings us to our last whiff of potpourri for the day…

Latest Prediction

I have made several predictions this election cycle and went out on limbs on all of them, beating “reality” by several days to even a week or more. I predicted McCain was the nominee long before it was a sure thing. I predicted Obama had real power and the possibility he would upset Hillary by simply being the left wing fairy tale darling of hope and no substance. So I am going to make a couple more predictions, and forecasts.

Obama will win the nomination. Even the Super Delegates will defect to him. The fork used on Huckabee and Romney (as well as Thompson) now needs to be prepared for the failed Clinton bid.

And one more prediction, even though I already made it once before… I said if Clinton loses, she will not be back, but if Obama loses, he will… well, let me tell you that I am still predicting that you will NOT see Hillary again. End of story. The Clinton’s will march on into the sunset, smoking cigars in blue dresses with memories of the Rose Law Firm and land deals.

That said, here is the prediction I am making for the General Election…

McCain will win, even without super strong support from the far right. He will do so by replacing those lost votes from the middle, both Democrat and Republican, at a ratio that will make the loss of the “take my ball and go home” right wing folks unimportant. And now, I will tell you WHY those people in the middle will flock to McCain. For this group of people it will come down to ONE thing, one burning question that will make them pull that lever in favor of McCain, all other things aside…

…and that question is: “In the midst of a world uprising of Islamo-facism, with our troops in harms way, and the very future of America and the free world at hand, can you trust the future of this Country and the lives of our troops to a ONE term Senator who finds it impossible to act patriotic, in any symbolic and overt way???”

This is the message the right should beat home over and over and over, in every form possible. All other differences will pale, and no other point or question is going to resonate stronger with the reasonable people in the middle than that single question.

I personally don’t like McCain. I think the term limits on his war credentials ran out long ago. I think he is a clumsy egotist, who has the potential to run his own way from time to time. But he is far closer to my ideals than anyone from the left.

And he has one other thing Obama will never have. The experience of what it means to have served, and be willing to die, for this Country. McCain undoubtedly loves this Country, FIRST, without condition.

Hussein Obama can’t even put his hand over his heart… let alone wear a hideous”flag pin”. Oh the horrors..

McCain needs to play that card, over and over and over…

McCain by slim margin…

Oh- excepting if Nader gets in or Paul goes Indy… more on that next week…
