Obama the King
What seems like an eternal yet at the same time unbelievably short election cycle, tainted with as many imperfections as one would expect in a world of people fraught with challenges and imperfections of their own- we are here.
We are at the nexus. We are at the zero hour, the alignment of the stars and planets, the anointing. The moment that we have all been waiting for seemingly all our lives.
The path to this point has almost seemed ordained, as if we were waiting for an heir that would grasp the mantle and ascend into some kind of greatness.
We have before us what might seem like a Hollywood storybook ending. Or, is it a beginning? Only the man himself and his unpredictable colleagues in the halls of congress can decide that. Only they can weave, out of this amazing conglomeration of incidents, and strands and threads of history, a future fabric that is still unknown and full of potential. Full of “Hope”. Full of “Change”.
“Yes, we can!” is, amazingly, no longer important. It is now, “Will you?”
I charge that the meteoric rise of Obama from the cesspool of the Chicago political machine no longer matters. I contend that Wright no longer matters. I will argue that it doesn’t matter if McCain might have won, were it not for Palin or a plummeting economy.
“Yes we can” doesn’t even matter anymore. Because, now, we are past the promises and campaign slogans. Now, we are in the realm of “walk the walk” and “lead by example”. Starting Tuesday, rhetoric is meaningless. Actions will matter more than soundbites.
I contend that Pelosi and Reid are on the precipice of either something great, or disastrous. It is up to them. Personally, I find it impossible to believe that they are capable of anything great.
It is up to all in congress to understand, maybe, just maybe, even they can try to make a real change. The kind of change that will make people stop hearing about earmarks and rolling their eyes, knowing congress watches out for themselves. That bridges to nowhere will stop. That real change is possible. That election fraud will stop. That accountability will surface and survive. That men and women with real ideals who wish to really serve, and I mean SERVE – this country, are allowed to do so, and not be trundled under by the cogs of Washington bureaucracy and back room dealings and arm twisting. That bills need to get out of committee, no matter WHO is in power.
Belief that Senate rules or traditions that bind gentlemen in proceedings where we decide things as incredibly important as who will serve on the SCOTUS, that those nominees are not to be filibustered, and deserve honor and dignity and diligent due process, not partisan game playing. Will that only matter now, now that the Reid’s and Pelosi’s are in power?
America as a nation is perhaps as caught up now with the power of unity and hope as we might have been after 9/11. But, clearly, it is much easier for a man to say that “they will hear all of us” than it is for us to all agree as to how, and what, exactly, “they” will “hear”. And, therein, in the details, lies the devil.
It has been equally easy, to this point, for Obama to preach change and hope, and “Yes we Can!” But, again, the devil is in the details, and we shall see what he can accomplish, very soon.
At this time in history, we appear to have achieved a fairy-tale-like junction of fates, that impart upon even some of the most partisan of us a feeling of “what if?” A history to be vindicated and affirmed as the greatest nation in the world, where free people actually “free” other people; where even those who have been at the bottom can rise to the top. Where hope, change, and yes we can, can, at least, be dreamt, with real, true hope that it can be achieved.
I applaud my Country for getting “here”. I applaud my people, for making that possible. I applaud those who dream, and hope, and strive to achieve better things, for the people.
On Tuesday, and from that day on, this Country will have an opportunity it has never had before. It will have a chance at something that may not come again for a long time. If Obama can lead, and I mean LEAD, there is a chance. If Obama can stay centered, there is a chance. If Obama can resist, and overcome, and inspire, there is a chance, a real chance, that we can really, truly see real change.
The odds are severely stacked against him. And of, or once, the illusion is dispelled, the “machine” will be back.
Why? Because hope rarely remains practical when the committees get their machines moving… when the interests start showing their interest… when the machine that is our Government starts chugging and puffing out the smoke and fog of political war, once again.
Enjoy the hope, America. I suspect it will be dashed, slowly, agonizingly, over the coming months, by the machines that are more powerful than the office of the President.
Like every other well meaning, serious, and caring patriot conservative out there, I too wish to extend the the following:
Good luck, President Obama.

Jesus is the only King !!! Hail and worship only Him !!!
Well so far it would seem Obama is just a politician. He’s made promises that he can’t/won’t follow through on.
McCain lost the election because of the state of the economy. Obama promised to fix that, but already he’s back-peddling saying that it may be too late to really be able to save it.
More of the same… but not McCain. Pity really I thought McCain had a better long term plan, but I guess the “now” crowd got what they wanted. Pity that tomorrow is just a day away.
At least you’re giving the man a chance to lead, unlike some of the comments.
Geez, quit crying about an election lost or stolen (Remember Gore & Florida?). Or, even worse…keep fanning your internal flames of hate all the way to the fringes of society.
The country gave your guy 8 years & by any rational persons assessment he screwed the pooch. Give this new pres a fair chance to lead. And if your readers expect it to all come together in his 1st 100 days then they are as juvenile as their comments.
Sometimes, I forget that even though in my own mind I am trying to write in a “suggestive” manner, some people will take it literally. Often what I try to do in here is reflect in a general manner what may or may not have transpired about any given issue, leaving it up to the reader to determine what he or she thinks.
At the time I wrote that, I was suggesting that many thought Palin was a problem, not insisting that it was a consensus that she was indeed. She was just one of many instances of what was possibly standing against McCain. I only mentioned one, but could have mentioned others.
I will say, definitively, that “I” feel Palin hurt as much as she helped- she was a net positive for the base, a net negative for the moderates. A wash. The only time you want a “wash” for VP is if you are solid enough a Presidential candidate that nobody CARES who your VP is. McCain was not such a candidate.
Good read. Take exception to the assertion that Palin, even partially, was responsible for McCain’s defeat.
Glad to see a group of optimistic people. No- fanatic people. It has always been my opinion that extremists on any side are bad. Blue or red. Nothing gets done with extremists as preconceived notions always block worthwile advancement. I would hate to see a congress made up of members with the non-productive attitudes that most of you seem to have. Alternatively, citizens and lawmakers with open minds and solutions at hand will make this country a better place.
I’m sensing some sarcasm?
Well here we go for a round of the so called ‘king’!! All’s I can say at this juncture is ‘Be afraid, be very afraid!’. The lack of experience as a Senator, now he is to be President!!!! has the World gone completely mad?!!
Oh, and one other thing, in honor of Martin Luther King who said that a person should be judged, not by the color of his skin, but by the content of his character…Based on that criteria, I do not see MLK voting for BO.
Can I puke? When Clinton became Pres. I knew nothing about him except that he thought he was a ‘pretty’ guy, all caught up in himself. My first impression of “puke”, was borne out, time and again. My impression of BO is similar. Not an original thought comes from him; he verbalizes the identical phrases Dems were saying in the 70′s when I was a Dem. Furthermore, he’s quite impressed with himself…puke. His record in congress, his associations, his religious and racial bigotry, are all part of the record. I hold out NO hope with this demagogue in power. Rush is likening him to the messiah, Jim Jones, and for me, that analogy fits perfectly. His constituency, the kool-aid drinking sheeple, worshiping at the alter of the creation rather than The Creator. Shallow, self-deceived, greedy, corrupt, and lookin’ out for #1 is his constituency. This will be The Decade of Greed and Racism as we have not seen before.
get involved in your own local and state politics – listen to the issues and be prepared to speak up and against the media pukes who write and publish one-sided news. One on one BUZZ from the informed will be better for us soon.
My thesis is that the President is not the major source of the problem/solution. It is Congress. What think you of this 3-fold proposal to improve Congress?
1. Term limits (3)
2. Put Congress on social security for retirement
3. Peg salaries of Congress-people at 2 times the national average.
Starting tomorrow, Obama will actually have to make a decision. Worse than that – he may have to make a decision that some of his euphoric followers don’t like. I certainly “hope” that he is ready for that. He’s about to learn that life isn’t all about running for office, which seems to be all he knows how to do.
I’m nervously watching and waiting to see. While I don’t gauge my success from the “One” in the WH, I will definitely make changes based on how “He” governs…
King? You obviously fail to recognize true theocracy when it is imposed upon you by the numbed masses. Kings have been known to fall on their knees and pray. I fear from this moment on, it is we who will be required to do such, in a million different ways.
I’ve been saying pretty much what Terence has. My old man lived through the Great Depression and fought in WWII. He had a lot of salty sayings, but the one he seemed to reserve for me whenever I said I “hoped” for something was, “You got hope in one hand and s**t in the other.” What he meant was, hope isn’t a plan and hope won’t get you what you want or where you want to go. You have to use your head, put your back into it, and make it happen. Can’t really expect that kind of action from a guy who habitually voted “present” in his short Senate career. He may get a free pass from his wild-eyed adoration society, but not from me. I intend to treat him exactly the way the Left treated George W. – and I know I’m not the only one who will. If you’d like to know why, read “Obama Will Hurt the U.S. – Stop Wishing Him Well” at http://scoop.typepad.com/exile.
Oh, there’s more than a good dash of subtle cynicism in there (my article), Terence! hehehe
Con ole boy, I’m gonna disappoint ya tonight.
While I agree with many things you say here, I do have a big difference of opinion.
I can not, will not, look hopefully on the next four years. An error was made, an election was stolen, by someone that was not even a good senator.
Never underestimate stupid people in large groups. We did. Closely held political and national views of mine, were squashed because I missed that simple quote.
NO Slack, NO extra rope, No chance, NO giving in, NO backing down, NO wishes of success, Nothing, NO Way.

The question is not IF there will be an interdiction of Obama’s Presidency by the Supreme Court, the questions are WHEN and HOW that interdiction will transpire — that is, if the USA is to continue as the Constitutional Republic that now exists.
