Guest Opinion: Why Conservative’s have lost…
2008 is another example of how the party is not united enough to defeat the machine that is building on the Democrat side…

So what happened to the 2008 Republican primary? First, there was no clear conservative candidate. Secondly, the liberals and neutrals (Fox News, is fair and balanced) controlled the debates, and thirdly, open primaries, where Democrats can choose our candidate, although this was not the most significant factor. Regardless, we conservatives just got totally owned.
First a historical perspective. How well did conservatives do in the 20th century Presidential elections? From William McKinley to Bill Clinton there is only three solid conservatives… Ronald Reagan, Calvin Coolidge, and maybe Warren G. Harding (yeah I know), out of 18 presidents. It looks like conservatives drop the ball five times out of six.
So, we need to get our act together and become serious about electing a conservatives or we are going to fail five times out of six as we just did. That brings about the solutions section…
Our first failure was not training conservative candidates. We need to put together a conservative candidate training kit to train all politicians. We don’t have a playbook, we haven’t codified our arguments, and we lost. Think of it as a starter kit created by conservative candidates that won or lost, conservative writers, economists, focus groups (to find the best way to sell our ideas), and by analysts. This will allow us to rebuild our movement from the ground up, and give additional tactics to seasoned politicians by conservative candidates. We didn’t and that’s proof that training matters.
The training kit/video should cover the big four: Money, organization, publicity, and rhetoric (how to argue a conservative position). I’m thinking of something like a combination website for updates, book, video and roving lecturers. Also the studies of government programs and tax cuts. What works, what doesn’t and why they don’t work. How much we spent and what we got for it.
(Ed: This does happen, at the grassroots level. I have seen it in operation. At the National level the RNC handles much of this…)
Our second mistake was we did not have an early conservative sponsored debates. Wait. We didn’t have any conservative sponsored debates. (Fox news debate was fair and balanced, and not a conservative sponsored debate by the way) We need an early conservative web debate and an early talk radio sponsored debate. We need early endorsements. I’m thinking we get the three talk show hosts with the largest audience that agrees to moderate the debate.
Wouldn’t we like to see a debate sponsored by oh… Americans for Tax Reform, Council for Citizens against Government Waste, Eagle Forum, Family Research Council, National Rifle Association, National Tax Limitation Committee, and National Taxpayers Union as well…
Our third blunder was that some of conservative media did not interview the candidates nor did they call for interviews. Haphazard interviews at best.
Our fourth problem was crossover voters. We should do closed primaries and schedule elections at the same time as Democrats.
(Ed: This debate rages, with good points on each side. However, it is not a federal issue, rather a State issue. The 9th and 10th Amendments as well as other legislation makes this anything but a federal issue. Sometimes “local control” can stink…)
Our fifth disaster was recruitment. Talk radio personalities should try to get invited to Republican conventions (state and national), and urge conservatives to run. We need to ask conservatives to join the Republican party and run for offices; from dog catcher to president. I mean if MTV can do this why can’t we?
Our sixth oversight was not having a PAC to elect conservative for the first time. A Politician starter fund. We got to get them elected in the first place.
If we keep on pretending it’s amateur hour and don’t learn from defeats, one victory in six is about right.

I have personally questioned many christians as to why they have turned against George Bush as well as the Iraq war when normally they would support conservative causes. The unpopularity of the president and the war have affected christian conservative support. Why? These christians have been greatly influenced by the “Left Behind” books and popular movies which most christians have witnessed on CD, DVD, or have read the books. Today, there has never been anything larger in the christian market than the “Left Behind series” which interprets biblical prophecy and demonizes Iraq as the location for the city of Babylon being raised as the last evil empire.
The premise of the book is built around the idea that Iraq and ancient Babylon are literally the seat of the coming anti christ and will soon become headquarters for the United nations. The obvious clue is that America is therefore assisting anti christ by helping Iraq grow into an industrialized political power.
Some christians wrongly conclude that our soldiers are currently dying for the anti christ and not for future freedom.
The worst conclusion possible is that American blood with tax payer support are secretly supporting the anti christ and his future throne. Like it or not there are many christians wondering if this is true prophecy. This christian publication is just as anti american as any terrorist production and even more dangerous to our national unity because it pretends to have a biblical foundation.
No wonder Obama is working hard to capture christian support during this election! If “Left Behind” truly represents Bible prophecy then Obama must be doing Gods will by declaring the war a major mistake. His support of Gay marriage and abortion or his promise to stack liberal judges on the courts are easily over looked if he can stop America from supporting the anti christ… I appeal to your patriotism by helping me to make this information known!
This biblical spin is a serious problem christians who are benefiting refuse to face up to because it is a New York times best seller.

Your own Bible predicts Iraq is to become a free nation through the assistance of (America’s) eagle’s wings in the latter days. (see Daniel chapter 4) Obama and others are exposed by such knowledge because they oppose America’s good will and support our enemies who also declare that the war in Iraq was a big mistake. The terrorists also want America out of Iraq and openly and publically favor Obama for president. “Bible Prophecies of 9 - 11″ refutes the propaganda and the damage being done to our country by books like “Left Behind.”

Such false and unfounded interpretations of prophecy seem to identify America as supporting this great evil that Christians must certainly oppose! They forget that God cursed Babylon through the prophet Isaiah, that it should never again rise to a world power! (see Isaiah 13:19) Babylon today is a universal term for ungodly activity not central to Iraq alone. Unfortunately the econemy and the Iraq war are today the number one issues within this critical election year.
If America is helping to prepare Iraq for the seat of the anti Christ then Obama appears to represent Gods opposition to such evil. This means we must support a future supreme court which supports Gay marriage, abortion, and christian persecution increasing in America. Is “Left Behind” teachings about Babylon in Iraq Gods will or Satans false doctrine?
Such biblical deception does not happen you say? Remember Y2K prophecy books which turned out to be a terrible loss for millions on new years day when nothing happened! Why do honest Christians not challenge such bogus information which spreads such blatantly unbiblical doctrines?
