Conservative Blog Political Potpourri 5/9/10

Another edition of Conservative Blog Political Potpourri, a collection of thoughts and rants concerning some of the more recent news in our world…

The Courts

Well, it is rather painful to accept that this bumbling ideological ass will leave a real “mark” on our judicial system for many years to come. Where to start…

9th Circuit

Goodwin Liu. Stanford graduate (honors), Rhodes Scholar, Supreme Court Clerk, Berkley Law Professor since 2003. Problem? Politically active and partisan; thinks the Constitution should adapt, evolve to the changes in the world. Progressive. Even worse problem? The fact he has NO “real life” law experience on the bench.

We have heard the left for years state that they would like to see people other than judges on the Supreme Court. Why? Well, for exactly the reasons stated above. They “feel” the bench should not be black and white, blind to the struggles of those in front of them, and focused only on interpreting the law- but rather, an empathetic, touchy-feely entity that embraces you like grandma when you get a boo-boo on your knee.

Is it really any surprise that a man with no executive experience (Barry) would nominate a man with absolutely NO judiciary experience?

SCOTUS

Oh boy. Here we go again. Please, the rest of you conservatives on the court, stay healthy, stay alive… eat your Wheaties.

Barry’s biggest complaint about Roberts and Alito (when Barry spent his short stint in the Senate) was that they appeared to side most often with the powerful. Are you kidding me? You simply don’t want them in there because you felt the little guy got squashed? What about the merits of the cases? What about the interpretation of law? My goodness… this man thinks that we need people in there that will actually try to take a stance on a case based on whether you are the “big guy” or “little guy”…

God help us…

This dovetails with the nomination of Liu. It is apparent that Obama does not want people who “see” the law as a blind instrument of truth, but rather an emotionally driven instrument of “equalizing”…

Why Steven’s Retires Now

Because he sees this “community organizer” Barry is going to last one term only.  Why do it RIGHT now? Because he knows Barry is about to lose the House, and maybe even Senate, which would make getting a liberal through very hard… very hard indeed.

States filing against health care….

Think it is over? Think again.

Currently, 41 states have either filed against the health care reform bill, or joined in a suit with others against it. Repeal is still not out of the question. But more likely is the defeat of the individual mandate. If that goes down, the whole thing essentially dies, as it defeats the ability of the bill/government to create an “all-in” pool that would effectively reduce the cost of health care for all (or so they say). Without the “all-in”, it is reported health care will increase by 40% under the current bill. Not good for the future of the bill.

Again, this is not over. Vote this fall… vote twice if you have to (you know, like the liberals do…)

Energy

Nuclear- Remember when Obama said it in his State of the Union speech? Heard it uttered since? Go figure… Window dressing. I was right.

Oil Spill in the Gulf

This is catastrophic, potentially. Is it Barry’s Katrina? Well, first off, you would have to assume the left is capable of applying the same logic to “their own” as they do to conservatives. Last I heard, they are hardly even thinking about the fact that Barry and his clan took upwards of ten days to really get a handle on this disaster. On the other hand, the fact that they have had the mantra of “since day one” coming out of every talking head for about a week, mayyyybe there is an underlying fear that, when all is said and done, and the total impact of this spill on the economy of the gulf is known, that Barry will have found his Katrina after all.

The loss of life in the ecosystems down there could take decades to recover. Of course, the left wants to blame big oil/BP, but at the same time they forget that all they really do in the end is force legislation which makes it impossible for us to be energy independent in this country, while China and Mexico will continue to drill in the gulf no matter what.

Is it BP’s fault? Could be- maybe. Is it their responsibility? In large part, by law, yes. But did Barry do all he could, “from day one”? I think that is highly doubtful.

Waxman Cancels Hearings

Remember our favorite Dr. Seuss character, Henry Waxman? You know, the Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman? Remember how he wanted to call up AT&T and others because he felt that they were being political when they announced that the health care reform package was going to cost them a FORTUNE!!!???

Turns out Waxhead called off the hearings. I bet you didn’t hear about the calling “off” as loudly as you heard the calling “on”, now did you?

Why were they called off? Because Waxhead found out that law required those companies to take those hits. It is only mildly complicated, but superbly boring, so I won’t go into details. Let’s suffice it to say that they did in fact take those financial hits, and they were required to by current law (triggered by the health care reform), and the accounting of said hit had to be publicized.

Odd though, no? Once the political reward of what he thought would be an embarrassment for them turns out to be an embarrassment for him, it gets quietly swept under the rug.

Cinco de My-Oh-Mayo

Wow. Seriously… wow…

We have come to a point in this country where someone wearing an American flag t-shirt on Cinco de Mayo (when some Mexicans proudly wear mexican flag garb) is considered an offense? Are you flippin’ kidding me?

Yes- I would agree that on a low level, the kids that wore those shirts were probably intentionally trying to poke a proverbial finger in the eye of those that might wear the Mexican flag… but come the hell on… I don’t consider that any more serious than I would someone going into Yankee stadium with a Red Sox shirt on. Or a Pepsi shirt to a Coca Cola plant.

What really irritated me about this is that the kids wearing the American flag shirts were considered to be the source of disruption. The reality is, what the officials feared was that the Mexican students would become inflamed, and perhaps violence would ensue. Note to officials- when the violence ensues, or if threats escalate, you get the perpetrators of THAT activity. You do NOT penalize kids who did nothing but wear shirts that, in fact, they wear many other days of the year as well, simply because something “might” happen.

I know it is easy in hindsight, and of course, these were kids talking to the vice principal, but the standard response for this in the future, when being told to either turn the shirt inside out or remove it, is this:

“This shirt is not a symbol of hatred or anger. It’s a national flag. Whatever someone else might perceive my wearing of this shirt to mean is their problem, not mine. If you do not have the right to ask me to change or turn this shirt inside out every other day of the school year, you do not have that right now, and I will not do so. Any actions taken against me regarding this shirt by you or others will be considered by the law. Thank you very much. May I return to class now, please?”

Let’s Talk Terror

Let’s walk backwards through this one, starting with the “no fly list” program.

I think we need to change it to the “no get on the plane list” program.

Times Square bomb suspect Faisal Shazhad was sitting in the plane, on the runway, waiting to take off essentially, when they finally realized he was on the plane. Something similar happened a few days later with another individual.

The way I hear it, the “process” has several steps, but it seems that the last step is run when people are actually on the plane. So I ask you this:

“If a terror suspect is on a closed airliner full of fuel, essentially inaccessible by the FBI or local police authorities, sitting on a runway, when we realize where he is, have we not failed already? Does he not have a captive audience of victims at his disposal?”

It is time for us to review our no fly list programs, and get those steps accomplished before the plane is loaded. Period.

More on the job training for Barry and Holder

So what did I learn from the terror bombing attack that failed?

I learned that Barry and Holder want to paint it as a success. But wait- the  bomb simply did not go off… it wasn’t “thwarted”, as they have repeatedly stated. They prevented nothing. A puff of smoke (the failed ignitors) caused a street vendor to notice and report it. Had their been no puff of smoke, their likely would have been a reallllly BIG puff of smoke, and no more street vendor, among many others who were likely close by that would have perished.

This was not a successful “thwarting”, but rather a pathetic failure (on part of the terrorist). Maybe that is why Barry and Holder have such affection for it. They too are learning as they go, and dealing with a lot of failure.

The second thing I learned was, Holder is a fool, still, making it up as he goes. Within hours of the suspect being apprehended (again, AFTER he got ON the plane and was nearly in flight), it was leaked out that Holder might be reconsidering trying GITMO suspects in New York (city). Ah- he FINALLY was seeing the light! If you try them in New York, you make New York a TARGET! Hey- I wonder what clued him in? Was it the information obtained from Faisal Shahzad himself? Did he say his motive was to make New York pay for maybe being the site of the trial for Khalid Sheikh Mohammed? We may never know… In fact, we probably never will.

But- imagine that! Holder and company would NOT listen to EVERY AMERICAN who said the same thing- but he will reconsider when (if) he hears it from a captured terrorist who tried to bomb Times Square???

Now, It comes to pass that Holder and company are trying to find ways to avoid having to mirandize suspects. Even those who are citizens. WHOA! What??? Say that again?

You mean to tell me that, after all this time, this OJT asshole is starting to learn, once again, that the right has had it right all along? That you can’t treat these bastards are criminals, which would afford them protections (such as miranda shielding)???

We can’t afford this kind of OJT. This ass has to go. Oh- you wonder which one I mean? I meant Holder, but maybe Barry won’t be far behind.

Greece

Want to see what happens to a socialist state that thinks it can take care of people cradle to grave? Want to see what a country looks like that has unbelievable vacation and retirement packages looks like when they finally realize they can’t afford it?

Look at Greece.

Most of us in this country realize that you just can’t put everyone on the government tit. Yet the left keeps trying, vying, and crying to get more and more tit programs, under the guise of “humanitarian rights”, but we all know the real reason is to broaden and secure a power base.

And, you’re paying for it in part… about 7 billion from the IMF will be going to Greece from US coffers to stabilize their government.

Isn’t it bad enough we have to pay for the tit suckers here?

Babs Boxer

I love this one. Love it. I guess because I dislike her so much.

Barabara Boxer fails to get the endorsement of the L.A. Times, for her re-election. Why? Because, they say, she doesn’t possess enough intellectual firepower. Said they “She displays less intellectual firepower or leadership than she could.”

O U C H!!!

Wait a minute… this is from the LA Times. Wow. That hurts even more. Them questioning her intellectual firepower is a little like Beavis calling Butthead “stupid”.

Hold on. Maybe Barry will tap her for SCOTUS, or the soon to be opening Attorney General job? I hear they take people who need OJT???
