“Obama’s” Economy
For me it is official. Obama and his amateurs have now crossed the threshold of “inherited” into the arena of “if you break it, you own it.” Obama’s weeks of “crisis” and “catatrophe” were followed by bad financial policy and spending in a bill that people could not even read before voting, followed by tying strings to the bailout money for banks and business. As I said a few days ago, Obama has his hand up the ass of this puppet so far that he has to take responsibility for it himself, at some point. That point is now.
Why? Well, you recall people from the left waxing and lamenting for the days of Clinton, and his big hyped up fake economic dotcom boom that burst on the backs of hi-tech companies which produced nothing yet still had hyperbolic stock valuation increases? While Obama does NOT have the dotcom bubble nor a good economy, he does have one thing- a stock market at Clintonian levels. So those of you longing for the Clinton days, we’re back there now!
Obama singlehandedly talked down the economy and rushed through aid at such a breakneck pace that what has subsequently happened is the economy itself, i.e., Wall Street, big money, big business- you know, all the people the far left hate- those people are cutting holes in their mattresses and yelling “Sell! Sell! Sell!!!” He has thrown on the table all his chips in a huge spending package which INSURES devaluation first, then inflation later. He has followed that with an absolutely stupid claim that he will cut this deficit that he just more than doubled in half in 4 years. Translation? “Your taxes are going up soon baby…”
Tie to that the fact that this numbskull has not yet realized that in order to pay for his next goal, broad and sweeping health care reform (meaning- Nationalized Health Care), he again is going to have to burden this country with a huge tax based pricetag. Rather than do what is WISE, and wait a few years until the U.S. starts to (hopefully) rebound a bit and strengthen economically, Barry is going to continue full steam ahead. Even simply talking about such a plan right now has a chilling effect on the confidence of Wall Street to invest. But what should we expect from someone with only book taught and political experience? What should we expect from a person who has so little experience, and all of that experience was gained by helping people get handouts?
No- this economy is not what he has ‘inherited’ any longer. This is now Obama’s creation. This is Obama’s recession now… and it will be his depression, if he does not get a dose of insight and start thinking things through…
And, as we can see, his plan is working superbly, as he planned. Dow is down 246 as I write this. Let’s hope he keeps his mouth shut the rest of the day.
Don’t want to scare anyone, but I think if we get close to 6000, it will collapse.
Obama Keeps His Promises, Kinda
Obama seems to be finding out that keeping his promises as President might be a little harder than a simple campaign promise. While he has rescinded some Bush policies, for the most part he is either keeping the others, or struggling to find a way to make his promises actually work.
Notably, Obama has made it clear that waterboarding will not be utilized. That is an easy one, requiring only words, really, and having little repercussions- at least no “visible, tangible” repercussions, let alone huge logistical legal problems or practical hurdles. On the other hand, he has asked that the military use current manual referenced techniques while the administration reviews the actual and practical values of “enhanced” interrogation.
Obama has utilized the “state’s secrets” authority several times. This flies in the face of his “change” and “transparency” image, one where he and the left criticized Bush to the extent that an image of the Kremlin or Stalin come to mind. Of course, I personally agree that a President has a right to some secrecy for the sake of protecting the Country. I am just pointing out the hypocrisy of the left for criticizing such tactics vociferously, while finding it rather convenient when you are the one in charge.
Obama promised to close Gitmo in a year. Then, he sent Eric Holder down to Gitmo to review what the reality is regarding this ambition of his. Again, citing the goal before the reality of the plan can be worked out is a sign of a first term wide eyed Senator-become-President based on hype, not substance. These are the frantic jumps of a man driven by left leaning rabid children who will, of course, get quite upset and violent if they don’t get the attention they feel they deserve.
Obama has now stated that he will have combat troops out of Iraq by Aug. 2010. He states he will have the remainder of troops out by the end of 2011. This would be close to meeting his promise on the campaign trail of 16 months. Well, one of the many changing promises he made, anyway.
Obama’s plan is to have the troop level drawn down to 35-40,000 “non-combat” troops initially. This is about one third of what we have over there right now (approx. 140k). Those “non-combat” troops remaining will be primarily to support the Iraqi government and security forces.
The achievement of this plan is largely undefinable due to the moving target of semantics. There are several problems with this goal, in my opinion.
- You don’t set an actual line in the sand timeline just for the sake of pleasing those on the left. You don’t put troops in increased danger but announcing your military plans.
- You don’t make promises you don’t need to. He could work to achieve this with absolutely no mention of the end date to the public. But again, what matters more is the “image”… what matters more is the pleasing of the rabid pea-brains, not the security of the soldiers, the country, and Iraq. Selfish.
- You don’t announce to the enemy such a date, as they now know they just have to wait.
- You don’t ever assume that such a large goal can be achieved. No military plan survives the trip from planning table and paper, to the field of battle, to the target date.
- There is no such thing as “non-combat” troops. First and foremost, everyone in the military is trained to kill. Additionally, even those who “push papers” are still quite capable of being targets.
- Couple with #5 is this question: How exactly do “non-combat” troops help with security? Mace?
This open mic promise from Barry is nothing more than a cookie for the left… something bright and shiny, so they can be placated for the time being. Let’s revisit this in 16-19 months.
Now We Have Intelligence?
Just a couple of things here, on Iran.
When dealing with international intelligence, we all (those of us with brains enough to understand the complexity of the “machine”) understand that it is a very, very imperfect science. One in which I personally would rather err on the side of protecting my butt rather than rely on the statements or inferred intentions of others.
Over he weekend, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Adm. Mike Mullen, stated he believes with some certainty that Iran now has enough fissile material for a nuclear bomb. Without going into great details here (as they really are not all that important) let’s just say that others disagree, and the “opinion” on this issue is all over the map.
The reason I bring this topic up is, now that people like Clinton and Obama can no longer blame others, but rather must make their own decisions and live with them, it will be very interesting to see how surefooted these cats are.
Secondly- these folks better get on the same page and start watching what the hell they say and to whom. Sec. of State Clinton stated that she did not believe that Obama’s efforts to work with Iran diplomatically would provide results. This information came from an official speaking, under condition of anonymity, who had attended the meeting with the foreign minister of the United Arab Emirates, Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan. I have a very hard time imagining a statement by Sec. Rice that would have sounded so out of line. I bet Obama is furious, and rightly so. Guess we’ll have to find out who wears the pants in the family.
Apparently those (Arabs) present shared some concern that Obama might make some kind of quiet deal with Iran, without first consulting with them. Secretary Clinton responded “We’re under no illusions,” the official quoted Clinton as telling al Nahyan. “Our eyes are wide open on Iran.”
They must have had a good laugh at that. As much as I regret that no WMD’s were found in Iraq, at least Bush stuck with the premise that we cannot take a chance with a dictator who would not allow full inspections by UNSCOM; and that we can now take the “we know for sure now” approach, as well as taking some pride in creating the only true democracy in the Arab world.
Clinton voted for the war, firmly, and made some very strong statements about it. Then, she backtracked, when the reality became more difficult to defend, and changed her tune, for political purposes. Her stating that NOW, now that SHE and another lefty are in charge, that the intelligence will be pure, perfect, and that they will make no mistakes or misread anything while making firm decisions, well, this is just a hoot. I bet they damn near laughed the keffiyeh’s right off their heads.
I feel like I am watching the Keystone Cops. How much longer do we have to go to 2012?
Here are a couple of the Clinton pre-war quotes:
”In the four years since the inspectors left, intelligence reports show that Saddam Hussein has worked to rebuild his chemical and biological weapons stock, his missile delivery capability, and his nuclear program. He has also given aid, comfort, and sanctuary to terrorists, including Al Qaeda members…”
“It is clear, however, that if left unchecked, Saddam Hussein will continue to increase his capacity to wage biological and chemical warfare, and will keep trying to develop nuclear weapons. Should he succeed in that endeavor, he could alter the political and security landscape of the Middle East, which as we know all too well, effects American security.”
“This is a very difficult vote, this is probably the hardest decision I’ve ever had to make. Any vote that might lead to war should be hard, but I cast it with conviction.”
“There is a very easy way to prevent anyone from being put into harm’s way, and that is for Saddam Hussein to disarm, and I have absolutely no belief that he will. I have to say that this is something I have followed for more than a decade.”
“For now nearly 20 years, the principal reason why women and children in Iraq have suffered, is because of Saddam’s leadership.”
“The very difficult question for all of us, is how does one bring about the disarmament of someone with such a proven track record of a commitment, if not an obsession, with weapons of mass destruction.
“I ended up voting for the Resolution after carefully reviewing the information and intelligence I had available, talking with people whose opinions I trusted, trying to discount political or other factors that I didn’t believe should be in any way a part of this decision, and it is unfortunate that we are at the point of a potential military action to enforce the resolution. That is not my preference, it would be far preferable if we had legitimate cooperation from Saddam Hussein, and a willingness on his part to disarm, and to account for his chemical and biological storehouses.”

With regard to “Obama’s Economy” I just can’t make myself agree with the premise. I don’t see a line drawn in the sand saying “threshold and now Obama owns it.”
I think inherited means what it says…inherited, passed down, handed over, bequeathed. The man who handed down the abomination is George W. Bush. Bush’s administration created it with bad policies, bad decisions, and little oversight — just plain bad government with our congress tooting Bush’s horn all along the way. Individuals stacked up hills of gold during the process and it was a process, a series of actions that culminated in a man-made disaster.
It could have been stopped at any junction but like I said — some people were getting rich. Some thought the bubble would never burst. I’m an independent so I can say these things.
I can say I was forced to watch “the process” from my television. When you start yelling at your TV you know something is very, very wrong. I can say I thought my wise congress made up of so many wise minds would do something to stop bad Bush policies. I wanted Bush impeached, not for what he did in Iraq but because of what he was doing domestically and to me personally.
I begged McCain and Kyl to do something, since they were my senators, but all they did was smile, ignore me, and continue to toot their horns even louder for the man who was sending our jobs away, keeping our borders open, giving us dangerous food and on and on. Today they’re not tooting but they’re not apologizing either.
I want an apology. I want my congress to acknowledge its complicity. I want retribution. I want to pin faces to the madness and incompetency of Bush’s rule and I want people to stand up and admit their part. Is this so wrong? I feel it’s what I need so that I can begin to mend.
You can say that Obama’s new policies are his but go no further. Don’t forget for a minute that it was Bush who gave Obama a stage full of fear to work from, a platform from which to bully us with golden rhetoric leading to submission, a ransacked coffer, and a discredited Republican Party.
No one wants to be reminded that the man, the president they backed with unfailing homage was not only unworthy but dangerous to the health of the country. Yet…here I am to remind you of just that. The problem is not that you chose him but that you allowed him to go on without challenge.
Here’s a question for everyone and non-partisan too.
Is it possible that the Mexican/American drug trade is tolerated by both countries to keep Mexico fiscally afloat?
NAFTA was supposed to bring prosperity to Canada, the U.S. and Mexico but it failed. Mexico is still foundering. Some of our factories moved to Mexico, even Hershey candy bars, but they’re still foundering. We allow Mexico’s citizens in and are forced to support them at the state level, but Mexico is still foundering. We allow our hospitals to go broke caring for “those who can’t pay,” but still Mexico is
foundering.
We know that Mexico depends on the remittances from Mexicans working in the U.S. This is an integral part of their economy, almost one-third of their economy I believe. Are the drug billions they make, at the heavy price of addicting some of our citizens, an integral part of the Mexican economy? Would Mexico be a failed country if the U.S. didn’t ALLOW Mexico to feed off of our economy?
Inquiring minds want to know.
This hole is so deep we are going to struggle to see light by 2012 much less cut the deficit in half. With Wall Street under the Holland tunnel and the porkers not backing off because they are buying votes the light of day is years away. With our new single party system the Great American Way is about to go the way of the mastodon. Socialized medicine, government owned insurance companies, government owned banks and mortgage companies sounds more like Socialism than Democracy. Bail out the banks, bail out the auto industry, bail out Wall Street and we are still broke and sinking. Maybe they ought to just stop, let the free market take its course and when all the dust settles and we are all in a soup line we can all not pay taxes and get nominated for Obama’s cabinet or an advisory position. We will all be employees of the federal government before this is all over. How do spell Stalin?
Why are you Conservatives complaining about Fiscal Policy when your Presidents have maxed out the Budget and fought wars on the credit card. Where is your weapons of mass destruction??? The Conservative propaganda is selling you out with their so called strong Christian beliefs and right to bear arms crap…makes me sick how 90 percent of red states still fall for that junk…Not saying Liberals are doing a great job, but the guy is in office a month and all I hear is Conservatives whining about this and that. Go hunt your damn deer and let the President do his damn job. You talk about inexperience of this President has, but what kind of experience does a spoon-fed spoiled brat have? How about an actor from California? I didn’t hear all this chatter and criticism when the GOP’s were on stage. Here is a food for thought, they didn’t do a great job either. All I heard from them was a bunch of lies too. Clinton happened to be President during the dot com boom but at least he brought the deficit down. What did Bush do??? Bring it up, that is correct. Lets just do nothing right??? How are the banks gonna lend money? How do Developers and Builders continue their construction projects. Just sit back and let Wall Street do the magic…That has failed with the mortgage backed securites scheme. Wake up and smell the toast my friend. Let them print the money and make the International Bankers more rich and have our next generation pay the dues. It is not like your party aren’t a bunch of Globalists either…Come on! Quit, this Conservative crap or Liberal crap belief system and be more Independent in the mind.
I just took a peak at Senator Mitch McConnell’s Senate Office page linked to Twitter. I am waiting for the rest of Prez Obama’s judicial nominations and appointments. I would like to see more on this fight.
President Obama is certainly making some very strong promises and I have no faith that he will be able to keep them. Part of the problem is that he has yet to stand up to Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid. He has some political capital that he could use to do that, but I do not believe he has any intention of doing so. We are in for a very long four years.
During the 2008 campaign, a lot of us tried to warn America about his brand of change and what it would bring to our country. We are now seeing that change happen and it is not a pretty sight.
