Obama’s Baggage, Coat Tails, and Friends…

It doesn’t take long for a politician from Chicago to reveal the fact that he’s from Chicago by becoming tied to the seedy underbelly of Chicago’s political machine. Amazing as it might sound, though, we now have an Illinois Governor (Rod Blagojevich) who was apparently interested in selling the soon to be vacant Senate seat of Obama to the highest bidder. Oh yeah- the Governor is a Democrat.

(Ed: Rumor has it that former HOR member Jim Jeffords offered $90k for the seat, but could not get his money thawed fast enough.)

Let me first start off by stating that I don’t think that it is clear enough now to make any allegations that Obama is tied to the Gov. Blagojevich “Seat for Sale” scandal. On the other hand, only time will tell, as it is rumored that Blagojevich will likely strike a deal and cooperate with prosecutors, which may bring now imprisoned Obama friend Tony Rezko into the mix, and then, all bets are off as to where it might lead for Obama.

Obama came out relatively quick to denounce Blagojevich, even being praised by some pundits as having “learned the lesson” of carrying bad friends too far by not denouncing Rev. Jeremiah Wright more seriously; more quickly. Personally, I don’t see a connection. Obama denouncing Blago proves NOTHING as it pertains to Wright. Obama did not oust Wright due to political expediency. He could not more denounce the main man from the Chicago based church that propped up his meteoric political leap to the top any more than he could call his white Grandma racist. Wait, let me rethink that…

Point is, denouncing Wright would hurt Obama; not denouncing Blago would do the same. This is not principle, this is expediency.

Now, if weird was not weird enough, it seems as though Jesse Jackson and his offspring are somehow tied to this as well. Jesse Jackson Jr. is rumored to have been Senate candidate #5, allegedly offering to pay $500,000 for the seat. If there is one thing that would add concern to the minds of many about power for cash, it is the introduction of the name “Jesse Jackson”, with or without the “Jr.”.

Stay tuned…

On another note, it sounds as if the far left is not too keen on Obama’s apparent “move” to the “center”.

Obama’s “friends” from the far left are wringing their hands and sharpening their teeth, recoiling from some of the moves Obama has made so far. Obama has dropped his insistence on immediate tax increases (repealing Bush’s cuts); Obama has cooled his jets on taking on Big Oil; he has backed down on his rapid withdrawal from Iraq; and now he is filling his cabinet with moderates, much to the disappointment of the lunatic left.

First off, note that once again, a politician from the left has moved his positions all over the spectrum in order to bullshit voters that have no brains into believing that he will do everything they want or need, and solve all the world’s problems. Secondly, let us note that far left principles are abandoned yet again as unrealistic in the real world, even by those who have the support of the far left.

It’s unclear for certain where the Obama Presidency will head… left, right, center, on each issue or problem. But one thing is certain- this isn’t what the far left expected, and they are none too happy.

Republicans Trying to Be Conservative, Suddenly

While I like what the Republicans are trying to do with the current Automobile bailout, I am afraid it is really unfortunate timing, and a very unfortunate choice of issues to try to suddenly take a fiscally conservative stand on.

Many Republicans in the House and Senate are very strongly opposing the upcoming bailout plan, I am afraid it is impossible to win this battle… one way or the other, Republicans will lose this one. If they stall the bailout, they will be blamed with the collapse of the auto industry, and perhaps the economy; and if they support it, I am afraid we will be institutionalizing yet another part of our society we may not recover from politically for some time.

Still, I am going to stay on the point that I think is the most important here: the Union’s need to make MAJOR concessions for the auto industry to succeed. They and their members need to lower their negotiated wages to better reflect what the “world” is willing to do the work for. Anything short of that will be nothing but a postponing of the failure of the industry, as it is currently structured.

Short of a serious Union reconsideration, I say let the chips fall where they may. IF the Unions are willing to drop wages by about 25%, and benefits by about 30%, then I am all for a government bailout.

It not, let ‘em sink.

Here’s my problem with all these Republican Senators – why didn’t they stand up and BAN the $700 billion dollar bailout plan?

What gives Congress the right to give $85 billion to AIG but nothing to Detroit’s Big 3 automakers?

I’m sick and tired of the government playing Robin Hood with taxpayers money. The government is nothing more than a parasite to the host – and if the parasite gets bigger than the host – everyone dies.

That’s currently what we’re up against.

True conservatives want peace, prosperity and freedom.

    After all, “Freedom is popular.”

  3. I saw you left a comment on the Top Conservatives on Twitter site, with a few questions. I’ll try my hand at answering them:

An easy way to follow the TCOT list is to follow @followtcot and then use that “following” list as an easy and quick way to follow everyone

Use search.twitter.com and enter #TCOT to see all tweets showing that hashtag by our group

Use hashtag #diggcons to submit URL’s to articles you’d like dugg by our group. And finally, engage engage engage. The more our group gets to know you the more they want to help

Great site by the way, I’ve subscribed

  4. I was so happy when the Republicans finally stood up for capitalism last night. Then I was a bit saddened to see the White House give in after the UAW was unwilling to.
