“You’re not my MOMMY!”

Beware of Those for Whom Winning is All…

Beware of Those for Whom Winning is All...
Barry Bonds. Marion Jones. Floyd Landis. Tyler Hamilton. “What are you talking about?”, you say? “Sports?”
Well, no. I am talking about the fact that when your desire to win becomes too big, you compromise your ideals, and you are willing to cheat, either yourself, others, or both.

A current USA Today/Gallup Poll states that Democrats are now of the mindset that the most electable candidate is the most desirable.

The poll indicates that more people believe Osama (I mean Obama) can win - something most Republicans believe too- Hillary is beatable, hands down.

But even more important are the ideals that Dems are willing to sacrifice in order to win. Much like other cheaters, winning trumps values.

“Come on,” you say. “The Republicans are willing to do the same thing!”

Well, no they are not. In fact, Republicans are more likely to vote in spite, against other Republicans, than Democrats are, by a wide margin.

Without question, Republicans will hold more true to their closely held values than Democrats. If you want proof, I give you two examples:
1. Read my lips, no new taxes and Ross Perot. Those two simple little things created Bill Clinton. Period
2. The 2006 elections. Democrats won by and large, in key districts, due to Republican voters punishing their own by not turning out in their support. This same example can be shown by how the party runs others who violate our principles out of their positions or office, but Democrats not only re-elect those violators, but then move them into leadership positions. Some of those Democrats are even criminally convicted.

Anyway, back to the USA Today poll¦

Clinton is backed by 45% of Democrats. Obama is backed by 27%. Yet, in a recent shift by Democrats, nearly 50% of Democrats want a candidate who agrees on issues with them, while 66% of Republicans want the same thing. Interestingly, one month ago, Democrats wanted an ideological mirror of their issues with candidates at a ratio that is similar to Republicans.

Yet, Obama RISES in the polls, to the extent that Iowa and other upcoming primaries are in jeopardy for Clinton.

What does this show? It proves what the USA Today/Gallup poll shows: Dems love Hillary, but support Obama because he can WIN.

Another way of putting this is, Democrats NOW are shifting toward supporting the canididate who can win (Obama) vs. the candidate that they think has the same values as they do (Clinton).

Why the shift? Why do Democrats now put their energy into winning over ideology?

What it comes down to is, values have less to do with the Democrat position at this point than WINNING does.

Even more important than that is the reality that, the farther left you go in the Democrat party, the fewer values ANYONE has.

Republicans have, no doubt, problematic people here and there in our ranks, who subject us to embarrassment by their actions which subvert and undermine our positions on values. On the other hand, we dont and wont sell our party values down the river just to win.

For this reason, Giuliani, even though he might be tough on terror, will almost surely not get my vote or support. And, truthfully, you have to expect that those on the left are hoping we nominate Giuliani as much as we hope they nominate Hillary. Like the athletes mentioned above, when you want to win so bad you compromise principals, you become something short of admirable. You wish to win so badly that you sell your soul.

According to this poll, the left is moving that direction, right now (if they have any soul left to sell).
