Our Own Village Idiot

Our Own Village Idiot

Bob Barr Shows his Arrogance

Well, we may have just what we need to insure that Obama-lama-ding dong and wife get into office. Our own version of Ralph Nader, Bob Barr.

Most of us remember Barr for his intense attacks on Bill Clinton in the Lewinsky trial. While we might have enjoyed his watchdog approach on that class A-1 a-hole, I have to say that even then I had concerns that he was a little too “dogged” in his pursuit… just a liiiiiiiittle too overzealous.

Well, it turns out Barr has a lot in common with other village idiots that don’t understand that in a two party system, indy candidates KILL real candidates. Nader and Perot come to mind. At least Perot was a viable contender though. Nader and Barr are nothing more than nuisances that undermine the ability of a majority of a party to control the destiny of the party.

Said Barr on Geraldo- paraphrasing- “Nobody is talking about anything of substance, and that is what I intend to bring to the table.”

“Um- idiot? The time for you to try to sway people into believing that YOUR ideas of “substance” have any substance capable of sustaining a Presidential bid has already come and gone. We call it a “primary”, you arrogant ass.”

Perhaps Barr will find a sword to fall on… I predict that pressure from the party will send him packing. If it doesn’t, I will be happy to go buy him a sword. Maybe we can find a drunk bus driver or a poorly maintained plane to donate to his “campaign”.

A Fool and His Money…

A Fool and His Money...

John McCain is now taking public funds for the election- to the tune of about $84 million.

Yes, I know, I know… it is ironic that Mr. Campaign finance reform can’t make money, while Democrats can. In a year where we have an unpopular war (that ‘popularity’ depends on “success”, and few of us can determine how to adequately define that), rising gas prices, and a recession in the making, it is no surprise that a Republican would have a hard time raising cash.

It has been intimated that Obama claimed HE would take public funding if the Republican candidate agreed to. But we know how things like that go. What is said today by a Democrat is quickly changed by tomorrow. One might even claim that the Democrat party is the “Woman’s Prerogative” party… always reserving the right to change one’s mind; or story; or plea.

When one considers the political faux pas’ of the two jokers on the left; when one considers the inexperience of Obama, and the fake experience of Hillary; when one considers the lies concerning their history; when one considers close ties to racists— it is absolutely perplexing the amount of money Obama, and yes, even Hillary have been able to raise.

One might claim that they have raised record levels of cash due to record levels of interest and sharp political tactics. I would say that the only thing they have raised is the interest of a party of fools…

…and we know what they say about fools and money.

While the groundswell of money from the left is impressive, we must simply remember that even rich fools will falter. Money cannot save stupidity, buy a reputation, or create a history of experience.

Bill Buckley, Conservative Cornerstone

Bill Buckley, Conservative Cornerstone

William F. Buckley, Jr.

Nov.24-1925/Feb. 27-2008

It is hard for anyone who takes seriously their writing to begin what amounts to an epitaph article for Bill Buckley. Yet, failing to rise up enough to meet the challenge that demands your courage is not acceptable, either. So, I instead face my own inner-critics and undertake the unhappy task of putting into words the passing of one of the great Conservative minds of our time. When it comes to writing, perhaps the greatest.

Armed with razor sharp wit coupled with a verbosity which allowed him to untwist any spin, and leave in shreds the untenable positions of his opponents, nobody could compare to William F. Buckley Jr. With a deep, softspoken charm accented by idiosyncratic facial ticks and perhaps intentional theatrical embellishments, Mr. Buckley could weave a powerful series of thoughts into a combination of languid yet Titanic verse. More often than not, this assault of articulation also held a cleverly disguised slant or hint of condescension which left most of us smiling on the inside. Well, most Conservatives, anyway.

Bill Buckley’s career as commentator and editor/author is impressive, but most of us will remember him for being the outspoken harbinger of the Conservative renaissance, post WWII. While reading his work was an enriching honor for all of us of similar political bent, it was equally pleasing (and sometimes painful) to view this wordsmith in action with his mouth. A gladiator in the arena of public debate, Buckley was never vanquished, and always standing even after the lions came to feast. In fact, I would imagine many left the stage having to ponder for some time what just happened, and wondering to themselves “Did he just INSULT me?”

No- yes- well, no, he didn’t. He just eclipsed you. You insulted yourself, by exposing your inadequacies to his rapier-like wit and arsenal of language.

I am going to miss that man… I am sure most of you will as well…

Thank you, Bill…

Buckley, RIP

Calling the Bluff of the Childish Rantings on the Right

Calling the Bluff of the Childish Rantings on the Right

Listening to the likes of Dobson and Coulter lately, as well as many other of the more far right conservative talking heads is like listening to children making threats. I remember when I was a child thinking “Oh yeah???!! Well, I will just kill myself, and THEN you will be sorry!” (I am not sure every kid thought such things, but I do think every kid does think silly things when they don’t get their way.)

Coulter’s position, stated on TV a couple of days ago, is that she will

"If you love me, check this box!"

"If you love me, check this box!"

Even though he is not even really in the running, I knew there was a reason why months ago I cheered for Thompson to get in the game. His “Cowboy” non-conformist, simple southern stubborn style was what I liked about him, and he showed some of it in the most recent debate.

The moderator said “I want to take on a new issue. I would like to see a show of hands. How many of you believe global climate change is a serious threat, and caused by human activity?

“Thompson’s reply was “I’m not doing ‘hand shows’, today.”

The debate moderator pushed on and asked again if Thompson would answer the question, and Thompson asked “Well do you want to give me a minute to answer that?”

Her reply was “No, I don’t…” Thompson quickly retorted “Well then, I’m not going to answer it…”

Bravo for Fred. Thompson later clarified that the reason he did so was, some questions deserve more than a hand count, and, even more importantly, people who are running for President should be given more time than that (the time it takes to say yes, no, or raise a hand or not) in order to answer a very important question.

This should be applauded. We have come to a point in this Country where some forms of campaigning have taken on a childish tone. This does not befit the process for selecting one of the most powerful people in our Country, or the world.

Presidential election campaigns should be passionate, respectful, substantive, and complete. They should also lack bias of the broadcasting agency sponsoring the debate.

The sooner our Nation starts realizing that this is not a popularity contest, but a contest of principled ideas on policy and National direction, the better off we will be.

Clearly, it is so Unclear, that it is Clear

Clearly, it is so Unclear, that it is Clear

And, theeeeeerrrrre OFF and coming out of the gate is “You’re not a real Christian” followed closely by “You supported illegal immigration” and “This is your third wife you cheating bastard” and coming up on their heels is “You sold out the party for campaign finance reform” chased by “How did you like my position on comprehensive immigration reform?” and round the first bend we have  ”You allowed for homosexual marriages” closely pursued by “Look at your liberal judge appointments”…

One thing is clear- ‘Houston, we have a problem.’ Well, maybe not a problem after all. Perhaps there is a fix surfacing.

“Is there an Elephant in this room? Anyone? Anyone? Beuller?”

What we Conservatives are seeing played out on the national stage is what we felt in our heart to be true from the beginning. Even if you could not quite put your finger on it, that uneasy feeling has been there for all of us: There IS no truly excellent Conservative candidate that does not have some kind of (real or perceived) weakness in their “armor”, so to speak.

When it comes to being the ‘complete package’… which is something that most of us Conservatives like, we clearly have a problem.

And how do we know this?

Well, quite honestly, one indication of this is that the candidates are spending too much time attacking each other, instead of the ideology of the other side. Us Conservatives have known for a long time that if our pool of candidates are weak enough that they can tear each other apart, well, of course even town fools like liberals could find the same weaknesses.

We might be at a point where this kind of “quiet weakness” would cause even Evangelicals to put aside some of their feelings about abortion, or Mormons, or Gay marriage.  And then again, we might not be at that point.

(Editors note: We are not saying that Mormons are not Christians. We are suggesting that some Evangelicals have problems with accepting them as Christians.)

In some ways, how successful “weak” conservative opponents can be against the top two current liberals really depends on how ugly and dangerous our eventual ‘opponent’ seems to appear. But on the other hand, do we really want to risk losing to the Democrats because we have people either voting or not voting dependent on apathy towards candidates positions on core issues?

Clearly, Hillary will bring out the conservatives in droves even if they had to vote for Romney or Giuliani. But I am not convinced that we do not have a serious weakness imposed upon us by our “less than solid” conservative candidates. We might in fact lose the election due to a kind of “cut off your nose” spite, due to apathy of the truly socially conservative.

And, what about if ‘Obama Bin Unpatriotic’ becomes their front runner? I feel we lose in a landslide if we put up “compromised” conservative candidates against someone like Obama.

My point, however, is that the issue that few seem to be speaking of is the fact we actually have a larger pool of  ”incomplete conservative” candidates that fit the traditional mold than we ever have before.

Speaking only of the top tier - McCain has betrayed us on issues before (Campaign Finance Reform and the recent Immigration bills, to name just two); Romney, while a very decent man, is just flat out not going to get all of the far right out, due to being Mormon; and Giuliani is flat out nothing more than a face down card that the dealer holds in blackjack… when it comes to abortion, immigration, and homosexual marriage issues, what stances he ultimately takes is unknown. What kind of judges he might appoint is really unknown.

“Does he have the face card to go with the Ace? Or is he bust? Can we risk it?”

You CLEARLY have to win both the moderate conservatives, and the more traditional conservatives, if you want to win in the next election. Otherwise the vote will be divided enough, and turnout poor enough, for the likes of George Soros liberals to win the White House.

So, again, I must concede that we have no truly solid Conservative in this race that can win not only the hearts and minds of our party, but also of the moderate Conservatives in this Country.

 Excepting one. Mike Huckabee.

 Why?

Mainstream Christian, conservative values and principles, likable, capable of humor (even at his own expense), direct, capable… and I think he is actually still on his first wife.

I personally felt one thing when I first saw Huckabee in a debate: Genuine.

Being genuine speaks to the hearts of Conservatives. Being humble goes a long way as well. I personally don’t feel McCain, Giuliani, or Romney are both genuine and humble to a high enough degree to satisfy that inner barometer that Conservatives possess.

I would suggest to people that they take a very good, long look at Huckabee.

It is clear that many in this Country are slowly seeing this as well. This is evidenced by his polling numbers. So take a good look.

The utterly BRILLIANT left wing ideologue scientist, Nobel winner, internet creator, and "Champion of the chad recount", Al Gore has once again wowed us with some more amazing feats of observation. Gore says the most recent Myanmar tragedy, Cyclone Nargis, which claimed 200,000 lives, was the result of Global Warming. Nice job, Nostradamus. This has brought on a chorus of rejection from scientists worldwide that claim that NO storm could be directly attributed to either the global warming phenom OR the science... neither of which could support Gore's claims. And this is supposed to be one of the left's "best". God help us. He could have been PRESIDENT.

The passing of Tim Russert brings to mind, for me, the importance of excellent journalism. Russert was one of the finest. While loving life, he would still grill your butt on anything that was the buzz... no free passes, and he understood that journalism was the 4th branch of the US democratic process. Our US political process and the field of Journalism will sorely miss Tim Russert.
  • The most stupidest dumbest ignorantest thang I have heard from the left lately...

Paul Begala, bomb throwing liberal pundit and talk show man, recently made clear what the left truly thinks. And remember, the "left" is supposed to be the party that blacks should love and vote for. Said Begala "We cannot win with egg heads and African-Americans. OK, that is the Dukakis Coalition, which carried ten states and gave us four years of the first George Bush." I totally agree by the way. You cannot win with only black Americans. You CAN win with only eggheads, though... This insinuation that African American support of Obama is the reason for Obama having ANY chance is correct. I think what Begala is saying is the same thing Clinton is saying, in a more veiled way. And I think what Begala is trying to say is "Obama is propped up by an African American vote- and that is IT. He cannot win without it." I agree... but I think it is a stupid to take that approach, or point out such a point of view, especially if you are a person from the party that claims (falsely) to represent the black community BEST.
