Calling the Bluff of the Childish Rantings on the Right
Listening to the likes of Dobson and Coulter lately, as well as many other of the more far right conservative talking heads is like listening to children making threats. I remember when I was a child thinking “Oh yeah???!! Well, I will just kill myself, and THEN you will be sorry!” (I am not sure every kid thought such things, but I do think every kid does think silly things when they don’t get their way.)
Coulter’s position, stated on TV a couple of days ago, is that she will campaign for Hillary if McCain is the nominee for the GOP. This is really sad. Most of the time, I can just laugh at Coulter, and be proud that she is a sharp tongued and sharp minded conservative who really can point out the obtuse nature of the left’s rhetoric and logic (if they have any). But there are other times when I just feel as though Ann does more damage than good- kinda like our version of Al Franken.
I for one am sick of hearing the “If you won’t play my game, I will just take my ball and go HOME!” mentality. For people who live in the world of rules, processes, and doing the right thing, this just wreaks of selfish hypocrisy.
At stake are far more important things than the egos of a bunch of assholes on the right that insist on having their way, and if they can’t get it, they just will do everything they can to make the outcome as bad as possible. We have troops in harms way; a couple of very old Supreme Court judges; and the need for veto power over a liberal held congress.
So knowing that, I ask you this- are you willing to let those things be controlled by Obama or Clinton?
McCain may or may not be the nominee, I am not sure yet. I have predicted he WILL be on here a very short time ago (before it was so obvious). I would prefer Huckabee or Romney in a heartbeat, and actually have very serious reservations on McCain. But I am also not stupid enough to cut off my nose to spite my face for the sake of making some point, driven by emotions and hatred. I will leave that kind of moronic action to those on the left.
One final point (final for THIS blog post, anyway)…
Those out there ranting that they will vote Indy or just not vote, or, like Coulter, vote for or campaign for Hillary (yes, I know she is kind of kidding)- they seem to be shouting from the highest mountaintop what their intentions are. It is a lot like those who want attention by saying they are going to commit suicide.
Here’s a diagnostic of that logic: People who WANT to commit suicide DO. Those who want attention DON’T.
As far as I am concerned, if you WANT to vote Indy, more power to ya. If you want to vote for Hillary, go ahead and do it. If you want to just abstain to make a point, fine, sit on your ass and let the world be taken from your pouting hands…
…but just shut up about it and DO it. Stop standing on the ledge of the 5th floor window saying you will jump, and DO it. Before the firemen arrive with the big net. Put your money where your mouth is, and just leave the rest of us out of your tantrum for attention.
And then think about the troops, the war on terror, the judges, and the veto… and live with your decision, and the outcome.
For those of you bold enough to stand firm by your decision to act so, go ahead and post on here your name and address so those of us not clouded by emotionally dominated ideology can all send you “Thanks, IDIOT!” cards when the troops are brought home before the job is done in Iraq; the war on terror is underfunded and brought to our civilian courts; and the next ‘Ginsburg’ is appointed to the Supreme Court. Those dangers ought to make the threat of higher taxes look “pleasant”.
(p.s.- Ron Paul is still holding strong at 3%… woo hoo! Be sure and give him your vote if you abandon the party nominee. Paul will likely be running Indy, me thinks. And he will need your support- and of course, your support will make a difference… somehow… to someone…)

I’m critical of the “Far Right” as I am with those on the Left. Despite McCain being labelled as being too moderate, which is considered to be too left in the views of some far right conservatives, he is conservative on some issues. My worry is that too many people of the far right will not vote for him, therefore giving de facto votes for the Democratic candidate in November. I’ve heard similiar rants and raves if a pro-choice candidate were to be nominated, such as Giuliani.
Would those of the far right be happier if a liberal Democrat such as Hillary Clinton or Barrack Obama be elected? I really don’t hink so. I know I’m repeating what the post says, but that cannot be expressed enough.

Hi –
My far right credentials are that I belong to Fire Society, another conservative blog, that I value the sovereignty of my country and that I don’t want McCain to be the president of my country.
Someone, I don’t know who, is calling every Republican who won’t stand behind McCain a far right nutcase. This is wrong because there are many, many resons not to vote for McCain and none of them relegate me to fanatical fringe status.
Born followers, party fanatics, and liberal collaboraters may be willing to give my country to Mexico with the help John McCain but I am not.
Call me a fanatic. Call me a crybaby but I’m looking for another way and another presumptive candidate. Choices of amnesty, amnesty or amnesty with McCain are not good enough.
Face it. The GOP failed us and is now trying to force McCain on us. No deal!

At first blush Ann is behaving like a spoiled child and taking her marbles home. Dig a little deeper and you discover that McCain has no hope whatsoever of winning. (I’ve covered this extensively at FireSociety) Therefore, Ann’s position takes on a whole new light. Add to this the voters who elected McCain are not mostly Republicans. They are Democrats, Independents, and Illegals. All three groups will run right over to the other side in the general. We would never think of doing something like this to Democrats. McCain again stuck not only his thumb but his whole arm into the face of Republicans. Taking all this into consideration there is no reason to support him. Ann is absolutely justified. She is making a necessary point without harming the outcome.

Good point Badgeringyou –
I’m a registered Independent who wants to vote GOP but can’t because of McCain.
Before that I was a Democrat for 20 years, asleep and unaware until the illegal immigration problem popped up and forced me to take notice. I was once a Dominguez and my niece is Latina and I say this before some idiot comes along and calls me a racist for being against — very, very, very against illegal immigration and amensty.
I’m pro-choice but don’t often say it on FS — yet this person from Oasis comes to FS and calls all of us on this particular thread far right radicals.
I didn’t correct him except to balk at the label but now that I’m here I want to tell that person — stop making assumptions and wake up. Go back to FS and listen to some of those radicals who aren’t so radical after all.
If you’re looking at our presumptive choices, Hillary, Obama and McCain AND NOT SCREAMING then something is wrong with you. Amnesty, Amnesty and Amnesty are not choices.

Hi –
This thread is moving too slowly so I’ll butt in again. “Assholes on the right, childish, selfish hypocrisy,” those are your words — just some of the name-calling — and it sounds like you’re the one having the tantrum.
Often timing is everything and this is the time to cry, scream and yell and let McCain and party robots know we’re not going to fall in line and suck it up just because they tell us to.
This is the time to tell McCain to come down off his high horse and make some concessions. He touts himself as being able to reach across the table to Democrats and negotiate. It follows that it should be that much easier to reach across the table to members of his own party and make some big concessions if he wants our votes.
If he doesn’t want our votes, if he wants to leave us behind he does so at his peril because the momentum is with the other side and he needs every vote he can get as evidenced by Huckabee’s wins and Democratic voter turnout.
Timing is often everything and McCain knows this is his last chance to grab the brass ring. Not only does he need to make concessions but he needs to motivate us and gain back our trust because few things about McCain makes us proud and happy to back him.
If he thinks it’s the time to sit back and rest he’s wrong. Now is the last time for him to turn this around. The onus is on him to make conciliatory gestures and concessions remembering he has wounded some of us to the core with his Comprehensive Amnesty Bill which was hard-fought and bitter, leaving scars that have not healed.
At this point I will not fall in line. I will not suck itup and say it’s a done deal. I will not pledge my vote. I’m still bleeding from my last political encounter with this man where I begged and begged McCain to do what was best for our country, not what was best for Mexico.
McCain and the GOP need to mend some fences and build some fences on the border and he’d better realize he doesn’t have much time. “Cut off my nose to spite my face,” well that’s exactly what McCain is doing.
I’m sending out my own list of “Idiot Cards.” Don’t you know what negotiating is? Each side gives or gives up something and you do it when you have something the other side wants.
Now — right now is exactly the time to throw a well-deserved tantrum. I have no idea where my vote is going right now. I want to give it to the GOP but only McCain can insure that.
