Because He’s Black

Because He's Black

Barack Obama has risen to Rock Star status. People faint at his rallies, which overshadow by thousands the rallies of Hillary Clinton. Without a doubt, the union of the two O’s, Obama and Oprah, has helped him immensely. Dealing with Hillary as an opponent is also an advantage, as she is so unlikeable. He pontificates and waxes philosophical with platitudes immensely broad enough to cover every persons desire while at the same time saying nothing about the specifics of achieving those goals. Speaking from on high with an oratorial tone, his doe eyed face scowling and rarely smiling, Barack Obama has found a formula for getting people to rally behind him… hell, I think they would carry him on a throne right now if they could.

But, it is not what is “obvious” about why some people would vote for Barrack that I am concerned with. I am more concerned with the less covered, less obvious reason why some people want to, or will, vote for him. We have heard it murmured here and there, over the months, but rarely covered. It is almost as though it is taboo…

…some will vote for Barrack because he is black.

Initially, this might not cause a raised eyebrow for most. But closer examination of the logic might render some more unsavory truths.

First off, in this Country, everyone should be proud that we have risen and morphed above our past enough to even see a black man or woman as a serious contender for President of the United States. That alone is enough to excite a lot of people, and this might also explain to a small degree the excitement around Obama. Hell, it even makes me proud. But there is more…

While we address the excitement of seeing a black rise to the point of being a Presidential contender, we are also forgetting to examine, perhaps, the hypocrisy of the ‘hype’.

I have heard several times from many, most of them young (and that is a not so veiled insinuation that they are also “dumb”), that one of the reasons they want to vote for Obama is because he is black. I have also seen/heard this said by blacks themselves. But isn’t the mere uttering of that motivation a form hypocrisy, if not stupidity, in and of itself? Isn’t it— racism?

I understand the desire to “see” something happen for the first time. I also understand the desire to “prove” that we have come a long way as Americans. But this is NO way to choose a President. This is not a logical way to decide who you wish to vote for. Even worse, for those who want to make a point based on color, this is a racial motivation.

If you want to vote for Obama because he is black, to make a point to “the man”, then we (or YOU) have come nowhere, gotten nowhere, risen above nothing. Or maybe I should say, those of you who would vote that way for that reason have missed the point.

President’s need to be put in office based on qualifications. Color is not a qualification.

And “making history” is a profoundly unsound reason to elect anyone as President.

On the other hand, we all know trying to reason with liberals makes no damn sense either, yet still I try… I guess I am trying to talk to those that are more reasonable.
